Maestra Maria Airada
Transitional Kindergarten DLP 

What songs make you smile? I love all music. From Religious, Country, Classical, Mexican, Soul, Pop, Blues, Hard rock to Rock! But the song that makes me smile is the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
What's you favorite treat? My favorite treat is ice cream and chocolate. But the best treat is a cup of coffee because it always reminds me of my Nana Queta, grandmother.
Who has been the kindest person in your life? Of course, my mother.   Every time I am sad or need kind words, I call her and just by listening to her voice makes me happy.
What do you enjoy the most? I enjoy spending time with family and friends!
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? One Sunday morning, I attended mass at 9:00 am.  As I was exiting the church, I looked down and what did I see.  I saw a black shoe on my left foot and a blue shoe on my right foot.  I WAS WEARING TWO DIFFERENT SHOES!!!
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? My most memorable childhood Christmas gift from Santa was a beautiful rag doll!!
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? I would like to be the Good Witch of the North because of the beautiful gown and crown.  Most important because all the munchkins respected and admired the Good Witch of the North. 
What is the one thing you can not live without? I would not be able to live without my family. 
 What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? In December, I lost my twin brother to colon cancer and so many individuals came to give us their support.  I will always be grateful.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would go visit my mother and father. They live in Calexico, California. They are the most important individuals in my life.  I love, respect and miss them!!!
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? My math teacher in high school, Mr. Orduna.  He helped me understand and love math!!!
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? That I am creative and have lots of patience.
What's your most favorite movie? My two favorite movies are "The Breakfast Club" and "The Sandlot"..  
When did you last win a prize? While visiting Reno, Nevada, I was eating breakfast with my husband and we decided to play Keno. Selected my numbers using random numbers.  After, eating breakfast, I went to check if I had won.  Yes!!!  The checker said you won 198.  I said, "cool, I won $1.98". The checker said no, you won $198.00. 
What's your favorite comfort food? Tamales because it reminds me when my entire family got together during the holidays to make almost 1,000 tamales. Wow,,,, it was hard work but fun!
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? If I could plan a perfect day, it would be visiting the happiest place on earth.   DISNEYLAND!!!!
What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? Run a marathon....
What motivated you to get into education? I love working with children. I have four children and if I had the opportunity, I would of had more children.

What songs make you smile? I enjoy listening to music in Spanish. I mostly listen to banda because it reminds me of Mexico and their fiestas! I also enjoy listening to Mana, Reik and Rio Roma, specially when I am doing chores.
What's you favorite treat? My favorite treat is homemade cheesecake, specially when I make it.
Who has been the kindest person in your life? The kindest person in my life is my grandmother. She always thinks about others before herself.
What do you enjoy the most? What I enjoy the most is being with my family. I love family gatherings and being able to talk and laugh all day.
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? Something embarrassing that happened to me was falling in front of a camera at a quinciañera a few years ago.
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? The most memorable childhood present I received was a Barbie convertible car. I remember it was big, beautiful and hot pink!
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? I am not sure, I have never read the novel or watched the movie.
What is the one thing you can not live without? I cannot live without my family!
 What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? The most thoughtful thing that anyone has ever done for me was when I was in college. It was my junior year in college and I got sick. I had a fever and was not feeling well at all. I told my parents in the morning. They asked for the day off at work and they surprised me. They brought me food and medicine. I will never forget what they did for me that day.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? If I could visit anywhere in the world, I would go to Italy to see all their architecture and experience their culture.
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? The coolest person I've ever known is my husband! He played soccer in Australia and Argentina.
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? The thing I like about me the most is that I like to learn new things.
What's your most favorite movie? My favorite movie is Finding Nemo.
When did you last win a prize? The last time I won a prize was three years ago in a posada. I won a fruit basket.
What's your favorite comfort food? My favorite comfort food is pizza with brownies and french fries on the side.
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? My perfect day would consist of sleeping in, going hiking with my husband, and ending the day with a movie.
What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? If I knew I could not fail, I would fly an airplane.
What motivated you to get into education? What motivated me to get into education was seeing how my teachers motivated me to continue studying and succeeding. I knew I wanted to be that person to someone else one day.

What songs make you smile? Any song with nice lyrics or a story makes me smile.
What's you favorite treat? I love fruit! Any kind.
Who has been the kindest person in your life? My two sons have been the kindest people in my life.
What do you enjoy the most? I really enjoy being outside surrounding by nature.
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? I could not find my car in the parking lot:)
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? A volleyball.
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? Tin Man because he always wanted a heart but in reality is very kind, plus the song is very cute!
What is the one thing you can not live without? Music!
 What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? A warm hug during difficult times.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Puerto Vallarta, or any tropical area. I love nature and the ocean.
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? Still pending...
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? I really like to think before I act.
What's your most favorite movie? Any Nicholas Sparks movie:)
When did you last win a prize? two weeks ago:)
What's your favorite comfort food? chocolate:)
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? Music, a nature walk, an ice cream, time with my little ones and a nice dinner.
What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? Go Skydiving.
What motivated you to get into education? I love to teach and I love to learn! Teaching requires problem solving, which I like too!

Maestra Yesenia Ruiz

What songs make you smile? I have many songs that make me smile, usually its songs that remind me of past memories. Tim McGraw and Erykah Badu  just to name a few.  
What's you favorite treat? I have the biggest sweet tooth. I love chocolates, cookies, candies, I like them all! 
Who has been the kindest person in your life? The kindest person in my life has been my mother. She is the most giving woman I have ever met. I’m very fortunate to have her supporting me, even though I don’t see her as often as id like to. 
What do you enjoy the most? I enjoy being with my family. I live 3 hours away from my parents and all of my family. Any time my entire family is together is what I cherish the most.  
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? I cant remember anything that’s been too embarrassing. 
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? A cabbage patch doll. I had wanted it for such a long time, you were able to feed it with a bottle, and it would pee if you held her up! I thought it was the most real and amazing thing. I still have it to this day.    
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? I would be the cowardly lion. He doesn’t feel courageous, but throughout the entire time he truly shows his courage and doesn’t really need to see the Wizard.  
What is the one thing you can not live without? My  boyfriend, friends and family.  
What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? My birthday falls during the school year. My grade level team last year bought me a cake. Each of their students made me birthday cards, and how thankful they were to have me at school.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would love to see all of Europe. Airplanes scare me! I have yet to get the courage to go on a plane for that long of a time. But, one day I will.  

Who is the coolest person you've ever known? My younger sister Janet. Shes pretty amazing, and she doesn’t even know it.   
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? My silly personality and bright outlook on things. I tend to laugh often, even if it’s a difficult day I will always find a reason to smile.  
What's your most favorite movie? I have many favorite movies. I love watching “Shes the man” and most Disney movies. I find myself quoting many random movies.  
When did you last win a prize? I hardly ever win prizes. The last time was about 2 years ago. I went to CABE (a conference for dual immersion) I won a national geographic box set of books for my classroom.  
What's your favorite comfort food? My mom’s home cooked food. I am learning to cook and attempt to make dishes like my mom’s no matter what I add it never tastes the same.
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? I would be on a beach somewhere relaxing, reading a great book.  
What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? Hmm.. I’m not too sure
What motivated you to get into education? There are many reasons why I chose education. I have always loved working with kids. I was a literacy aide in high school, when I really began looking into education. Seeing students gain so much knowledge inspired me to research it more. From then on I knew education was what I wanted to do. In college I decided to obtain a bilingual teaching credential.

Maestra Haide Gonzalez
 1st Grade DLP 

What songs make you smile? Love songs make me smile. As a child, I remember sitting in the back seat of my parents car while my dad listened to KWAV 97 FM. Without knowing it, he got me into the soft rock love songs. I still love that radio station!  
What's you favorite treat? I absolutely love Mexican churros. My grandpa bought a churro making machine when I was little and I have good memories from that. 
Who has been the kindest person in your life? My grandmother “Nina” is the kindest person I know. She loves without judging or expecting anything in return. I consider her like a second mother. I am very lucky to have her in my life. 
What do you enjoy the most? I enjoy spending time with my husband. People that have been married for a long time look at me funny when I say that. But, I really hope my enjoyment of spending time with my husband never changes for me. 
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? Recently, in my New Orleans honeymoon, my husband and I went to the zoo. After walking in the swamp alligator exhibit and encountering the Swamp/Voodoo monster display, I felt negative energy. I can’t explain what happened, but soon after, I fell flat  forward straight down. My husband was a few feet in front of me and ran towards me. I couldn’t get up. It was so embarrassing because both my knees were bleeding and I had to walk all the way to the front of the zoo to get band-aids while everyone looked at me. The good news is, I was fine after cleaning up.
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? My most memorable childhood Christmas present is a doll my dad bought me. It was one of those dolls whose eyes opened. I remember it because it scared me, hehe. 
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? I would be Dorothy, her red slippers are timeless.
What is the one thing you can not live without? People are not things, but I can’t live without my husband/family. The older I get, the more I appreciate family and how valuable and important they are in my life. 
What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? I took 4 years of French in high school with Mr. Madsen. At some point, I wasn’t focused and he called my parents to find out why. The truth is that I was sitting next to a student that needed a lot of help and was very talkative, so I wasn’t able to focus in class. But, I felt so thankful because he cared about his students’ success.  
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I think Paris, France is a romantic city. I hope to visit with my husband one day.
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? I think my two brothers are really cool in their own unique ways. I enjoy their company. 
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? I like that I’m very driven and motivated. I think I get that from my parents. They are the kindest, most giving, humble people I know. I am where I am because of their determination and motivation which in turn, rubbed off on me. 
What's your most favorite movie? There’s too many movies to name. I really enjoy scary movies though. When a new one comes out, I usually go and watch it in the theatre.
When did you last win a prize?I won $3.00 from a lottery ticket. 
What's your favorite comfort food? I like chips and spicy salsa. I can’t have just one!
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? Since I’m always busy, I really enjoy those rare days when I can be in my pajamas watching TV. 
What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? That’s a hard one. Having God in my life has given me the courage to get up when I’ve failed and be thankful when I’ve succeeded.
What motivated you to get into education? When I was a child, I used to pretend I was the teacher and I’d play school with my two brothers. I would even give them pencils as prizes when they got questions right. I knew I wanted to teach very early on.

What's you favorite treat? Chocolate
Who has been the kindest person in your life? I cant choose, I fortunately have too many!
What do you enjoy the most? I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I enjoy dancing, running, and outdoor activities.
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? I once had an accident back when i was in fifth grade. I was about to attend a new school and did not know where the restrooms where at.
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? At a holiday school event they raffled decorated Christmas trees, and I actually won!
What is the one thing you can not live without? I could not live without music.
 If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would visit Egypt. Ever since I learned about Egypt back in sixth grade I stayed completely fascinated by all of the culture and the pyramids.
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? The thing that I like about myself the most is my ability to have a smile on my face 99% of the time. I always try very hard to see the positive of every and all situations.
What's your most favorite movie? My favorite movie is Love and Basketball
When did you last win a prize? The last time i won a prize was when I was in elementary school and I won a fully decorated Christmas tree.
What's your favorite comfort food? My favorite comfort food is pizza.
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of?
My perfect day consists of sleeping in, going out for lunch, doing some kind of outdoor activity such as a run or a hike and then coming come to relaxing and resting.
What motivated you to get into education? My first grade teacher said some very kind words to me that changed my perspective of myself for the rest of my life. The fact that the words from one teacher can change a child's life motivated me want to do the same for other children like it was done to me.

What's you favorite treat? Big gulp and hot cheetos (LOL).  No seriously,  I love carrot cake.
Who has been the kindest person in your life? My husband, Jesus, because he's so loving and generous.  My mother, as well.  
What do you enjoy the most? Spending time with my family. 
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? I had to scale a 6ft. wall in front of a lot of people and I couldn't do it.  I tried many times and it didn't happen.  (No one else could do it either, but I was the first to try and fail). 
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? A purple bike with the tassels on the handlebars.
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? The lion
What is the one thing you can not live without? My family
What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? When my mom was in the hospital, our family and friends rallied around and did a meal train. 
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would go to Spain, because it looks like an intriguing place with lots of culture and history.
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? My mom, because she's the toughest person I know.
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? My determination

If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? My family out at a beach house with great weather and good food.
What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? Go back to school and get my PhD
What motivated you to get into education? I've always wanted to get into eduction, but I thought it would be in counseling or another avenue.  However, when our oldest daughter entered Kinder, I saw the inequities that exist in public education. I felt that I could help by becoming a teacher.

What songs make you smile? Love songs from country to rock. 
What's you favorite treat? Any edible item covered in dark chocolate.
Who has been the kindest person in your life? My mother.  She always has a positive way to look at things.
What do you enjoy the most? Spending time with my family. 
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? One day I forgot to do an assignment and the teacher put me on the spot.
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? Breaking a special pinata for Christmas.
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? I would be Dorothy, because she never gave up on finding the Wizard of Oz.
What is the one thing you can not live without? Comfortable shoes.  I am on my feet all day and I need to take care of my feet.
What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? Recently the organization of my classroom supplies.  Thank you Lincoln parents!!!
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would go to Italia and Grecia.  Imagine all the food I could eat, mmm....
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? My two brothers.  They always keep me laughing. 
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? Getting along with others.  Finding the positive in the negative.
What's your most favorite movie? I really like old, black and white movies.  
When did you last win a prize? I remember winning $45 dollars from a lottery ticket.
What's your favorite comfort food? Caldo de Pollo (chicken soup).
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? One day in pajamas watching old movies and eating junk food.
What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? Learn how to ride a motorcycle.
What motivated you to get into education? I always remember playing teacher with my brothers and sisters.  We had a chalkboard that my dad put on a wall in the room where we used to play.

What's you favorite treat? Oreos with ice cold milk
Who has been the kindest person in your life? My former boss, Kapetan Brothers Law Firm.  I owe my career to them. 
What do you enjoy the most? Besides sleeping in, I enjoy traveling.  Even just quick road trips.   
What is the embarrassing thing you've ever experienced? When I was in college my car horn was stuck on for five minutes in the middle of the parking lot.
What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? Santa bought me a five CD disc changer in 2nd grade.
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? The scarecrow
What is the one thing you can not live without? Coke-a-cola or McDonald's
What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? My boyfriend put together a class project for me when I was super busy and didn't have time to do it myself. 
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Everywhere, especially Europe.  I've never been. 
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? My 6th grade teacher and track and field coach, Mr. Childress.
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? I have determination.
What's your most favorite movie? Up
When did you last win a prize? Today!  My students gave me a 'bolleto' because they said I deserved it.
What's your favorite comfort food? McDonald's - Big Mac

What was your most memorable childhood Christmas present? My Bike when I was 11
If you were a character in the Wizard of Oz, which would you be and why? I'd like to always have courage for whatever life brings me, the lion
What is the one thing you can not live without? Mi Hija
What is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for you? Shower my daughter with love
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Easter Island, a coworker went recently and the pictures were breathtaking.
Who is the coolest person you've ever known? Mi Mamá, she worked dusk to dawn, has 3 children, cooked and cleaned, washed clothes and never complained. I have one daughter and one on the way and I'm always so busy.
What's the thing you like the most about yourself? The many friends, acquaintances, coworkers, family and people that surround me and love me.
What's your most favorite movie? Como Agua para Chocolate
When did you last win a prize? $50 Walmart Card, Dec. 2012
What's your favorite comfort food? Pepperoni Pizza y tamales
If you could plan a perfect day, what would it consist of? Breakfast made for me, off to work at 7am, a computer lab with 36 computers, lunch delivery in the garden, an assistant to make all of my copies, home at 3, house cleaned, dinner made, family walk to the park, baby n me in bed at 8:30. What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail? Open my own school with a few of the wonderful teachers I've met during my career.
What motivated you to get into education? My master teachers Raquel Quezada and Marisela Santana in the California Mini Corps Program
Describe yourself in five words. Happy, dedicated, loved, hopeful, a believer

  1. When my daughter, Ella Rose and I read this together and we got to the music part Ella Rose immediately began to sing her Spanish songs, nice way to start a Monday morning
